This study re-examines and systematizes the semantic structure of resistance in the text of the Holy Qur’an, employing a discourse analysis approach. The central issue explored is that resistance, in the Qur’anic context, is neither a solitary moral virtue nor merely a military tactic; rather, it is a mode of being and a discursive identity that is systematically articulated around the central signifier of monotheism (tawhid). Departing from conventional subject-oriented approaches, this article demonstrates how the Qur’anic discourse—by activating a coherent network of key concepts such as patience (inner foundation), steadfastness (external solidity), perseverance (dynamic and strategic persistence), and jihad (comprehensive and ultimate action)—constructs the resistant subject. The findings indicate that tawhid, as the nodal point, provides coherence to the entire semantic field of resistance by arresting the slippage of meaning, thereby transforming resistance into a purposeful act aimed at safeguarding the absolute sovereignty of God. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of the Meccan and Medinan contexts reveals the intelligent evolution of this discourse, from patient resistance rooted in exegetical jihad and identity formation to empowered resistance focused on legitimate defense and the consolidation of manifest sovereignty. Ultimately, within this framework, resistance emerges as an identity-forming process that, in dialectic with the arrogant ‘Other,’ defines and consolidates the boundaries of the monotheistic community.
