Instability in the Persian Gulf over past decades has existed due to reasons such as differing viewpoints and supremacy-seeking of regional regimes, opening the door to foreign powers, and developments such as the Islamic Revolution of Iran, the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, the Iran-Iraq and Kuwait wars, and the US occupation of Iraq, which is an undeniable fact. However, in the past decade or two, another factor has been added, namely terrorism—terrorism that mostly targets ordinary people and is accompanied by heavy human casualties. The roots of this terrorism lie in the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf region, and its dual component is religious. Not only does it act as a factor of instability in the Persian Gulf region, but this instability is also intertwined with its peripheral areas, and it is predicted that in the near future the issue of terrorism will not be resolved in the region and will continue for a long time. This article aims to answer the question: What are the causes of the expansion of terrorism in the Persian Gulf region? The research findings indicate that oil revenues and the enrichment of terrorism supporters, the expansion of information technology, political support from regional powers, and the geographical characteristics of the region play a fundamental role in this expansion.
