Color or velvet revolution has entered political literature in the past two decades and takes place through civil protests or widespread sit-ins in protest against election results, aimed at regime change in target countries. So far, this pattern of regime change has occurred during or after elections, and the role of American non-governmental institutions and organizations in the form of human rights, democracy, and freedom-supporting foundations has been prominent as the guides of color revolutions. What is a color revolution and when does its history date back to? What are its goals, characteristics, stages, and the contexts of its formation? To answer these questions, using library studies, data description, and inference, the author examines the concept and background of color revolution and, by enumerating its goals and characteristics, points to the stages and contexts of formation as well as the role of its designer and supporter foundations. The color revolution in Iran occurred through claims of electoral fraud, calling the result a lie, premature declaration of victory, defamation and fabrication against the government, and proposing international monitoring, along with inciting riots and widespread strikes, while the green color was used as the advertising symbol of one of the candidates. This issue covers the concept, history, and designer-supporter foundations of the color revolution, while the next issue will discuss its goals, characteristics, stages, and contexts of formation.
