Following the assassination of Uthman, public will prevailed over partisan tendencies and the ambitions of power-seeking factions, leading to the people's pledge of allegiance to Amir al-Mu’minin (AS) as the new Caliph. In doing so, the people sought to alleviate their anxieties and return to a model of governance they had experienced during the Prophetic era. After the bitter experience of aristocratic rule and increasing social inequality, the public developed stable inclinations, emotions, beliefs, and informed convictions toward Imam Ali (AS).
The Imam’s appeal manifested in two distinct forms: his personal likability and his perceived competence to govern society effectively. His effectiveness stemmed from a synthesis of personal virtues and unique contextual attributes. Equal treatment and impartiality toward all social groups could only be expected from the balanced and just character of Imam Ali (AS). In pursuit of justice, he gave special attention not only to theoretical principles but also to practical mechanisms and implementation strategies.
His compassion and sincere interactions with the public fostered long-lasting emotional and behavioral bonds, paving the way for the realization of his social and political programs. The profound spiritual and perfected personality of Imam Ali (AS) attracted devout and passionate followers around him. Throughout history, this deep devotion and love have served as one of the most pivotal factors in the expansion of Islam.
